Watercolours: an Introduction with Jane Hodgson
Watercolour is a very special medium – the brilliance of the colours, the translucency and happenstance make for a very beautiful way of painting. This workshop shows you how to start this complex medium in a fully understandable and supported way to allow you to make a great start – including mixing colours, wet and dry techniques, layering and brush use.
I am a professional artist and qualified tutor, mentor and coach, with 13 years experience teaching art to adults and 5 years mentoring and coaching students – from beginners to advanced. My desire has always been to encourage and push people’s own style, not to copy my own, I have a knack of being able to see a students interest and patterns often before they do.
Costs and numbers: 3 hours, £45 per student, Maximum students – 8, suitable for Adults
This workshop is for beginners.

Your Art - Let’s Talk About It with Jane Hodgson
Coaching/mentoring discussion facilitated by Jane Hodgson, who is an artists’ mentor/coach. Each artist will bring 2-3 pieces of new work for discussion first by the group, then themselves. Group questions/observations will aim to add some clarity for the artist, or at the very least food for thought. This is a ‘quick fire’ introduction to the powerful benefits of peer presentations and comments.
The mix of mentoring and coaching has proved highly successful for my students and I, it is a mix of giving advice, tutoring and encouraging, through coaching techniques. It is an empowering and sustainable mix.
I am a professional artist with 13 years experience teaching art to adults – from beginners to advanced. My desire has always been to encourage and push people’s own style, not to copy mine, I have a knack of being able to see a students interest and patterns often before they do.
Following on from teaching I have been mentoring/coaching artists since 2018 and am a qualified Relational Dynamic Life Coach (2022). I completed the Mentoring Programme at Newlyn School of Art in 2019. The programme leader (Jesse Leroy Smith) suggested to me last year that I start group mentoring, I take that as a big compliment on my ability to facilitate.
The half day comprises:
3 hours, £45 per student.
Maximum students – 8.
Adult.
Suitable ONLY for artists who have a fairly established practice, but who would benefit from being challenged and helped to move forward. If you are unsure this workshop is for you, please call me for a chat: 07973 709902.
Suitable for 2D and 3D work.

You are welcome to supply your own buckles and leather straps or non leather alternatives but do chat to me first about sizing before you buy.

This 5 week course will be an opportunity to immerse yourself in the skills and weaves that will make up a beautiful, open-topped willow back-pack. Starting with a catalan style base, there will be opportunities to learn several new weaves according to your skills. These back-packs are wonderful to use in the garden to gather fruit, for a visit to the beach or the market. They are hard wearing, long lasting and mendable, sustainable making at its best! You can choose from leather or canvas webbing for your straps, and you will be shown how to use the tools to attach everything with rivets and buckles, to give your own backpack a beautiful finish.
The 5 sessions cost £135. There is also a materials charge of around £15 for the willow and £15-20 for leather straps and buckles etc (payable during the workshops). You are welcome to supply your own buckles and leather straps or non leather alternatives but do chat to me first about sizing before you buy.

THE SECRET LITTLE ART SHOW
At the Art House on Saturday 27th April
THE SECRET LITTLE ART SHOW…. (formerly known as the secret postcard sale)
What’s going to happen?
On Sat 27th April there will be an exhibition of work donated by a number of different artists who all want to support the Art House.
The ‘little’ bit
Artwork can be drawn, painted, printed, collage, textiles…in fact any medium you like as long as it fits into the dimensions of an A5 card. That’s 14.8cm x 21cm. (Twice the size of a small postcard)
The ‘secret’ bit
Visitors to the art show will be able to browse and buy. All art work will be priced identically, and the purchasers won’t know the name of the artist until after they have completed the purchase. So a great chance to get an original work of art at a reasonable price.
Why not get cracking on some artwork which is A5 size, landscape or portrait.
