INDIVIDUAL PROJECT MAKING SEWING DAYS with Jane Norris - Print Studio

Come join our weekday sewing workshops. Tuition at the Sewing Days is based on your individual making project and learning aims for that project.  Depending on where you are on your sewing journey – it could be learning to sew and making your first garment, or an advanced sewing project with a specific technique you’re wanting to master.  Or your project may involve some pattern work, such as fitting adjustments or design line adjustments / style manipulation.

Guidance is given individually for each project, especially useful for selecting the right garment size to make, or for fitting adjustments.  This makes up one part of achieving professional results, the other part is to select the right sort of seam construction – which is about choosing one that is suitable for your project cloth and the style of the garment you’re making.

Maximum of 5 students per workshop. A five hour workshop provides each student with good amounts of individual tuition throughout the day. You will find this a lovely friendly social working space. It’s a place to challenge your making skills and learn new techniques.

Enjoy tea, coffee and biscuits throughout the day, bring your own packed lunch.

Booking in advance – £55 per sewing Day. Book for one day or for a run of dates to suit your availability.

If you are interested in making a booking/s please email

Cold Wax Painting: An Introduction with Shirley Kirkcaldy - Print Studio

Unlock your creativity in this exciting 1-day workshop! Explore the expressive potential of cold wax painting, experimenting with opaque and transparent colours, using a variety of mark-making techniques and a range of tools—from palette knives and squeegees to brayers and brushes. I will demonstrate my approach to using this versatile medium and offer practical guidance with time for hands-on practice, so you will leave with an understanding of the techniques.

Cold wax transforms how we can use oil paint, with faster drying time and offering the ability to layer more quickly, it invites a more instinctive way of working. Perfect for artists of all levels looking to push boundaries and discover new possibilities!

For the workshop we will be using the landscape as a loose reference but you will be encouraged to put away any photographs or sketches and work intuitively, allowing the process to lead you through a process of experimentation and, if desired, abstraction.

What will be covered:

  • Using cold wax medium with traditional oil paints

  • Experimenting with a variety of techniques and mark-making

  • Creating texture and depth

  • Using additional materials such as pastel

  • Using different tools and surfaces.

£125 per place - Price includes refreshments, materials & equipment

Experience: Suitable for anyone new to oils and cold wax or looking for different ways of using traditional materials.

Willow Laundry basket: 2 day workshop with Jenny Gracie - Yellow Studio

Willow Laundry basket: 2 day workshop with Jenny Gracie - Yellow Studio

This 2 day workshop is based on the wonderful laundry basket seen in Jenny Crisp's book 'Willow'. Many of you have asked for this workshop and so now I've booked it in. The photo above is taken from her book and shows this lovely shape. This is a super design built on a square Catalan base, and gradually becoming round as the basket gains height. Finished with a full border and leather handles, so plenty of lovely techniques to learn and enjoy. Due to its height I would recommend this basket workshop to those who have made baskets already, as managing the weaving on a tall basket takes a bit of experience. Also, as we will be working with 6ft willows over two days, it will require regular hand strength and hands that are happy to be used. Please get in touch if unsure. The two day workshop is £180 to book plus around £20 for willow and leather payable at the time and depending on what you wish leather -wise.

Land and Light: Atmospheric Landscapes: 2 day course with Shirley Kirkcaldy - Print Studio

Land and Light: Atmospheric Landscapes: 2 day course with Shirley Kirkcaldy - Print Studio

What do we mean when we describe a painting as being atmospheric?

In this workshop we will be exploring how light, colour and texture combine to develop interesting surfaces that imbue paintings with mood and depth, infused with light and have a visual dialogue.

Demonstrations will include the techniques I use in both acrylics and oils and you may use either or both over the 2 days.

£250

Who is it suitable for? Some experience of painting would be useful and would also suit anyone looking to adopt a looser approach to their work.

You will be required to provide your preferred paints and surfaces but supplementary supplies will be available to use if needed. Price includes use of other materials such as collage, charcoal and pastels, tools and equipment if needed. More information and a full materials list will be sent on confirmation of booking.
