Gaynor Williams – Bookbinder

Gaynor’s training as a bookbinder started 20 years ago at the London College of Printing alongside teaching in the post-16 sector in Hampshire. A post-graduate diploma in Book and Paper Conservation at West Dean followed, which led her to setting up a workshop, the Blue Door Bindery. This evolved into a multi commitment: she became one of a London-based team covering bespoke furniture for yacht interiors using leather, vellum, fishskin; part of a team stabilising national book collections; repairing books for private individuals.

Gaynor’s move to South Brent six years ago has brought a shift: her book repair continues and the materials chosen determined by the existing, but when book making for exhibition her preference is Dartmoor felted wool.
